Hi all,
Recently got back from a 3,100 mile round trip from MA to GA. Had fun and the van ran great. But the second night back the check engine light came on!
Van still runs fine, so I suspected no emergency. Next day I took it to a friend's shop simply to hook it up and see what code was coming up. He didn't elaborate, but said the "upstream O2 sensor" was the problem.
OK, fine, I should be able to replace that. I have a Haynes manual so I looked in there. Nothing!
Anyone know where I can get instructions on how to do this, please?
Thanks!
Chris

http://www.autozone.com/az/cds/en_us/0900823d/80/1a/3f/7b/0900823d801a3f7b/repairInfoPages.htm This is for a generation 3 van, yours is a gen 4. Should still be simular. Scope it out to confirm. Recommend you go at it from below to avoid disassembly. Run the van 2-3 minutes to heat up the exhaust. This will make it easier to break the old sensor loose. Cheers.
It's on top of the exhaust manifold directly behind the engine.

Thanks a million! Might get a go at it this weekend. If not, is it a terrible thing to ride around like this for a while?

If you're a tree hugger - yes. It will spew out extra pollution until it warms up. If not, the only thing you might notice is a small mileage decrease. Keep in mind though, if the Service Engine light is on it will not pass a smog inspection, if that applies.
