Hello everyone, I just got in here. I see a lot of good tech information. Good stuff. I need some help. How can I ID an engine out of 2000 Silverado. I need to know what displacent it is. It is out of the vehicle and no way of knowing what it is. Thanks .

There should be an engine code listed on the block..with that unique number on the engine block itself, you should be able to look it up on the internet using that number or calling the dealer and seeing what that number translates to...Or if you can do it..measure the displacement the old way: Displacement = .7854 x Bore x Bore x Stroke x Number of Cylinders....you can tell how many cylinders there are by looking at the engine itself visually....

For example: The displacement of a 4.6L V-8 (281-cid) engine is: 280.3 (0.7854 x 3.55 x 3.55 x 3.54 x 8).

Yes, that is what I was looking for, a code that will disclose what engine this is. It is either a 4.8 or a 5.3 V8. Thanks
