clutch cable stuck in guide tube

Hello, Before I start I would like to thank you for any help that you might have for me. I havent worked on any bugs since my teen years so Im a little rusty. My Brother in-law gave my boys a 63 beetle. Within days the clutch cable snapped. I removed the cable from the tranny side and the pedal assembly with no problems. My problem is when I started to pull the cable from the pedal side it got jammed in the cable guide tube. It makes a clanking sound near the shifter. Whats the easiest why to access the cable tube to release the cable? Im not looking to tear down the car if I dont have to. Thanks again

Disreguard my last post. I was able to fix it. The tranny side of cable was caught on the lip of the tube. Thanks

Whlle you are working in that region, there is a nylon 'socket' for the bottom of the shifter - or is it at the end of the horizontal shifting tube? Its not easy to get to, but is worth replacing if you can get to it. Having a new one in there will make shifting more crisp and snappy. The flex joint at the back end of the horizontal shifter rod - where it connects to the front of the tranny, is another item that may have gotten feeble over the years.
I had a couple of early 60s beetles. Both of them had the brake line rust through in the same place - right beside the center hump, sort of between the side of the drivers seat - and the heel of the drivers foot. Maybe thats not a problem in CA cars. It sure is on V-dubs in the Northeast though.
