Hi to all,
I have had my Jimmy just under 2 years. so far !
I have replaced.
New Rad, Second hand engine block, new fuel pump, new front brake pads, New Battery.
Todays problems, Well for starters, I drove a friends Jimmy 2 days ago. I was braking on some ice when I heard this strange noise. After asking I discovered it was his ABS on his 97 Jimmy.
my q is. I have had my car 2 years. I never knew it had ABS, ABS has not worked in the 2 years I have had it. the light never comes on or goes off. I also discovered I have a couple of lights off on the dashboard. There are supposed to come on before starting....
All fuses are fine in fuse box, what can I check next to get ABS working ?

If the ABS brakes are working they will make a noise and kick the brake pedal when making a fast stop on slick payment.
If everything is OK.
They only work or activate when you need them.
Does the yellow abs light and red brake light come on when key is first turned on for a bulb check and then go off?
What other dash lights are not working?

Thanks for the post. Im new to the whole Jimmy, I know ABS is not working. If i press the break pedal hard and fast the wheels just lock. There is no ABS light on pre ignition.
As for the lights on my Dashboard, key turned before crank, I get seat belt, crappy buzzer noise, battery Thats it
No parking light
No ABS light
No driving light

ABS brakes only work when the payment is slick and one or more wheels have no traction.
I always like to test them on a lot or field with a lot of slick green grass or a real muddy spot.
Hit the brakes and when wheels start sliding you can feel brake pedal pulses and hear ABS operation.
The dash should have yellow check engine light and yellow ABS light and red brake light.
A good ABS cscanner will test and check ABS brake operation.
And have a code if you have a problem on them.

Thanks for the quick reply, Yes the tested the Jimmy on ICE, the roads are bad where I live in Canada....
Anyways whats this scanner ? do you have a link where I could find one ? are they expensive, or would it be cheaper to take it to a garage ?
or
Shall I do it myself ?

On Ice is not a good test.
If all 4 wheels are on ice you can lock all wheels and slide.
ABS are made to limit slip on one or 2 or 3 wheels not all 4 on ice.
If you heard the abs working when braking they sound like they are working.
Did the pedal kick up and down?
ABS scanners are expensive.
Good ones can range up and over 5 grand.
For a one time scan or check find a good repair shop.
Good luck
