Help!!
Some background information:
1997 GMC Jimmy 4X4. 4.3L - 185000K. Car starter/alarm system & Immobilizer system installed.
This issue started about a month ago. I would attempt to start the truck, and when I turned the key all electrical systems went dead, dash lights, fuel pump, overhead light, warning signals, and also my radio lost all presets. I would turn the key off, and occasionally the lights would flicker, and I would be able to start it up. Other times it would not start for a couple of minutes. Either way, I took in the battery and the altenator and got them both tested. They came back fine (I had them tested at 3 different stores)I then removed each battery cable, and cleaned them. I also traced all the ground wires back to their grounding location, and cleaned them and made sure there was bare metal. Still had the same issue. Called the dealership, and he said the issue was the remote starter, and to remove the fuses. I did so, and the problem persisted. Today I went to start it and nothing. No lights, no ignition, nothing. Totally dead. The battery tested at 12.26V so it's not dead but there is no electrical at all. I should mention that the ignition issue happens when the key is used, or if it is started remotely. Hope someone can help!!

Sounds like the ignition switch harness/module.
Next time you have this problem, go under the steering column, look for a thick pink wire leading from the key location down to the firewall behind the pedals, and wiggle that wire, while the key is in the "on" position. If the dash lights come on or buzzers go off, it's the harness.
Here's a link on how to replace it. It costs around $100.00 at most chain parts stores.

Could also be bad battery cables as well. There was an issue where the original battery would leak acid down inside the battery cables. So, they'd look fine on the outside but be rotten on the inside.
