I have a question about the 1996-1999 Chevrolet or GMC trucks.
It appears these trucks are famous for the EVO Sensors going out and needing replaced. When they go out they cause steering problems and can be dangerous from what I have been reading on the internet.
I found this while searching the internet.
TSB 86-32-06 SEP 98 Steering - Reduced Effort While Driving
This seems kind of dangerous to me and my question is did GM ever release a new, updated EVO Sensor for these trucks to replace the old faulty ones?
Did they design and release a new, reliable EVO Sensor? Because if you were to replace the EVO Sensor wouldn't the new one just eventually malfunction again and be dangerous and cause steering problems
again?
What's the new part number if there is one? And the old part number? And is there some more information somewhere I can read about this?
I read somewhere on the internet, someone mentioned GM released a new updated EVO sensor that wont malfunction anymore and cause steering problems and I was just wondering if it was true or not.
Thanks for any help :)

Bump. If anyone can please respond to this thread. Thinking about buying one of these trucks and need to know if there is a newer, safer, updated EVO sensor released for these trucks. I want to buy one of these trucks but I dont want to have to worry about any steering issues.
Sure appreciate any help. :)

I can't offer any advice on this subject but I have one ordered for my 97 silverado with 181,000 miles on it. It is way to easy steering sometimes just when you least expect it. I wouldn't let this 40$ part keep me from owning one of these trucks. Just my opinion though.

A good Chevy dealer should be able to answer all the ?'s you have in your 1st post.

There is an upgrade it cost about 67 dollars and just by-passes the evo sensor and you just tape up the plug.
I broke the evo sensor off while removing engine and had to buy the upgrade, works very well
