So who makes the best decal? In terms of quality, pattern.. etc..

Scale Motorsport is generally considered to have the best, in-scale pattern. Some other companies 1/24 scale carbon fiber looks the same as Scale Motorsports 1/12 scale.

Yeah the industry standard is SMS.

Another good source is F1 Specialties. They don't have as wide a range as Scale Motorsports but the types they do have are very good. Their 1/20th carbon fibre is even finer than the SMS version. Conforms to irregular surfaces better too - for my fumblefingers at least.

Direct from their website at www.scalemotorsport.com.

Excellent service. I once ordered something from them, something went wrong and they went all out to rectify it. Two thumbs up.

I have heard a lot of good reports about Scale Motorsport.

The other option is to paint it yourself, but that is slightly harder :finger:

How big are SMS sheets?

They are about 12cm x 18 cm. A bit pricey at US$8 each, like most Scale Motorsports stuff. However, if you want the best you have to pay for it!

How about Reji's?
I saw that they have some, too.

I have both the Renaissance and SMS CF decals, and they look very similar. What differences am I supposed to be looking out for? The SMS one is supposed to be printed with metallic ink, but both of them have the same sheen, even in good lighting.

Haven't seen them Zeljko, but can't imagine they would be in the same league as the SMS stuff. Of course that opinion is totaly unfounded and I would be really pleased to be proven wrong!!

one way or another I will need to get some CF in future and use it on my rally cars. Only SMS things are still too expensive to me.

I'm not that luck like Gregg Hutchings, editor of Model Car Magazine, he started to work on GB suby and he use S27 engine, Rennaisance door transkit, S27 parts, SMS parts and CF.

I've heard that Reiji decals have this problem of being too adhesive, ie when they hit the surface, even with adequate water they won't slide around anymore. Is there any truth to this?

How about Carpena decals?

Here are my experiences.

BBR:
Are also producing 1/43 and 1/24 multimedia kits but as far as there CF decals are concerned. Very good pattern (like SMS) but when placing them over curvy edges they tent to break even with decalsetting products used. Avoid

Carpena:
These are the ones I used for my Sonax. Pattern is not so good, a bit to grey but You all seem to love them when I posted the thread so they are OK, Pricing is cheaper then SMS. Good alternative to SMS. :)

Reji:
Although I haven't used these, I saw them in the shops and they had some printing errors on the sheet (black ink spots) Also their Marlboro decals are not as crisp as say S27. I think this is a new Tsjech company so we'll have to monitor the process closely. Waiting List

Scale Motorsport
I still have to try these but I have their CF sheet for Tamiya's McLaren MP4-13 and you can see the quality. The reference in the category but like with many references in life their expensive. For ultimate perfection these are the one to have :D

Cheers,
Guido
