Transmission Blues

So my car is a 2001 Eclipse GT and has 97000 miles. Its an automatic which acts weird sometimes. When the car is warmed up and I go to put it in reverse, the revs wind up and then the transmission engages. The part that concerns me though is while it catches it jerks heavily back and fore. I am a one time owner of this car so I know nobody has done reverse drops or anything like that. Is their anything else besides the clutch plates wearing down that causes this? The reason I ask this is it doesn't happen while engaging in any other gear......However, I am guilty of parking on my driveway which has a moderate incline. Could all those times I reversed off my driveway cause this to happen?........what are the costs of repair and parts?.......any help is appreciated, thanks:wink:

Well, typically when an auto trans goes south it isnt the entire trans. Usually only a few gears go bad, typically 1st or 2nd or reverse. Yes parking on an incline without using your e-brake can cause excess wear on your trans especially if when you shift into reverse you can hear and feel your car "pop" or slam into gear because the weight of the car was being held entirely by the transmission...always use your e-brake. As for other things that could be wrong with it...well, to be honest it's an auto trans...there are a million things that could be wrong with it...thats why they cost about 1600-2400 bucks to rebuild. I would take it to a trans shop that gives free diagnostics and see what they say. I know there are some auto trans fix fluids out there, so I would go ahead and give some of them a shot before calling on a rebuild...but my guess is that the whole kitty is going south..sorry man
