I ALREADY KNOW THE DOOR CODE !LOL!
heres the problem. if i press the 7/8 and 9/0 buttoms together a few times the doors lock on my 1996 EXPLORER.
however, nomatter how many times i try to put in the code, nothing happens. I have seen other explorers and noticed the door keypad is backlit.
My keypad is dark all the time, but I know it works beacuse of the locking when I press the two buttons simotaniously.
Please help!!
(i locked my keys in the car at a scenic overlook at 2:00AM in the middle of winter while making a pit stop. It was about a mile off the road and there was no lights around. I was 3 states away with nothing but a rock in my hand.)
Dont want this to happen again.

So even when you can get the locks to lock with the 7/8 and 9/0 buttons, the backlighting doesn't work?
The Remote Antitheft Personality (RAP) module is responsible for controlling the keypad illumination as well as locking and unlocking of the doors. There are two connectors between the keypad and the RAP module. Due to the intermittant nature of your locks working with the keypad, I'd be inclined to think you may have a bad connection somewhere, maybe in the junction between the door and the door jamb.

if when trying it locks, shuld be good, maybe someone before changed the module, get the code from the module itself, this code appears in several parts of the car, but the module is the one. hard to see but no impossible, open the trunk, pull off the left two buttoms gate, bend the plastic, light inside and remember the code, if plugs are unpluged (2), pluged (after read the code) and run to the door.
