attempting intake manifold gasket replacement, few questions.

I am just about to take off the manifold, but I've run into two snags. One, I can't figure out how to unplug the wiring harness from the fuel injectors and two, I have a stuck bolt on the passenger side of the block that holds the tensioner pulley on. I can't get enough leverage on the bolt because of the position. The only tool that fits is a small hex wrench. Anybody familiar with this bolt? -aaron

There is a metal clip on the injector connector, push it in and release the connector. No year?, we assume it is a 3.1? This is a torx bolt, there are no hex bolts, you need a torx socket set and a ratchet wrench with a tilt head makes it easier.

this is a 2001 alero, 3400 series engine. All I see on the fuel injector connectors is a green plastic clip.

sorry, I did mean torx, not hex. My wrench does fit fine, but the bolt is stuck and I can't get leverage. Would torching it help?

Have you tried spraying a penetrating oil like WD40 down there? Or, try putting your wrench on, them slipping a pipe over the end of the wrench for more leverage. Be careful trying that, though, you don't need to break the bolt off!

3100? What? Aleros only came with the LD9, L61, and the 3400.

I wish I had room for a breaker bar, but unfortunately only a small wrench will fit. I would welcome a broken bolt at this point just to get the sucker off. I think I'll spray it with some penetrating oil and let it soak overnight.

Im a 4 cylinder kind of guy so Im not familiar with the 3400 to much other than its know for the LIMG leak and it can kick ass with a turbo. But I still prefer my Quad. Good luck

Make sure it is not a reverse thread bolt, unless I am wrong look at the back of the injector connector for the release clip.

FYI the 3.4 is an LA1 (http://www.automotivehelper.com/topic408154.htm)(since you didnt know).

A 3.1L - 3.4L are the same engine , and basicly the exact same problems with the LIM leaking pre 2003.

SO didnt you take your 2.4 then down grade to the 2.3 internals...... you quad guys and your silly tricks.

And blacksunshine, Max is right about the left hand threads on the idler.
