Trying to install a tach on my 4.3 but there is no 'tach' label on the distributor (only c, d, etc). Where should I hook the green wire from the tach to the distributor (someone told me to splice into the white on the distributor but I do not want to 'fry' anything:uhoh: ) Any help would be appreciated.
Dave

I don't think there were any. I have an '04 4.3 and looked in my shop manual for a diagram that would indicate a circuit which could be tapped for a tach signal. Nothing was relevant. Sorry.

I couldn't find it in my shop manual (Haynes) either, but there isn't any diagrams of engine wiring period. I wonder if it has a 'crank' position sensor (just put in a new 'cam' position sensor). There are ways to hook up a tach to distributorles engines, so... Thanks for your reply - Dave

I wonder if it has a 'crank' position sensor

Just in front of the leading edge of the oil pan, below the front cover and harmonic balancer.

Does the green tach wire go to the crank positioning sensor? Which wire? Seems like a weird place to run wires...

Is there a yellow wire? The wiring diagram in the FSM shows that to be the signal wire with a green wire being the 12 v reference and a purple wire being low reference.

It may take awhile to check the CKS wires because it is going to 'bodywork land' to have custom windows put in and a thorough 'de-dinging' and paint. Even though my buddy gives me a great deal, his bodyshop can take forever.

This may not be related, but do you know if you can put 235/75 16 inch tires on 8x16 custom rims? The tires are currently on the stock 6.5x16 wheels.

You might try an email inquiry at www.tirerack.com. They've been very helpful to me in the past.

Tirerack said hose tires would mount on any rim 6 to 8 inches wide, that'll save me some money. I'm getting off topic though, as soon as I get my van back I'm going to get that tach working!
