changing clutch

hey guys.. im changing my clutch, i got the plate, the cover, the alignment tool, and two or so bearings..

i got a question, what else should i get to get ready for this? i hvae a ATV jack that im going to use to drop the trans down, with a few choice friends who should be able to help me.. im thinking of getting brand new flywheel bolts.. since im not sure how much the trans company i had work on my car earlier lost some..those bastards:banghead: they also did a shitty job, which explains why im going to redo it myself.

there goes 2K of my $ -__-.

anyway, what do i need? i heard its not too hard to put a new clutch in.

ill go buy a few cans of brakleen to wash down the plates once its in, ill go look at the flywheel, maybe get it resurfaced (it shouldve been done less than a year ago at the trans shop)..

any one got tips, instructions or even a what i should get list?

a instruction /how to would be really realy helpful

so any:2cents: will be helpful!

thanks..

Tip? Yes. Get the book for your car! It will have the correct step-by-steps in it.

The flywheel, unless absolutely perfect, should be resurfaced again, to insure the life of the clutch.

^^ My friend didn't resurface his flywheel and it had a lot of "chatter" to it afterwards.

hm.. so if my clutch already has chatter = get a new freakin flywheel, then huh?

lolz..

i have a book but its so stupidly irritatingly simplified.. its just there to pretend like it can help, like microsoft help lol =P

i think i should know what to do, but you know, just anything i should watch out for would be nice :D

thanks guys!

btw, reconditioned flywheel? any good? i can get one for ~40 bucks + returning mine..

Have yours resurfaced. No reason to replace it unless it has damage. Minor surface cracks are no big deal.

Get a Chevrolet factory service manual.

What the hell kind of shop did you take it to that didn't put a warrenty on their work and gives a car back, less some parts here and there? :disappoin

Advice, seperate trans and bellhousing. Much easier to get to all the bolts and remove trans from car. All advice so far has been good and definitely resurface the fly. If you were near College Station, Texas I'd give you a hand as I've got this 4th gen trans replacement thing down. I can change my clutch, from drive in to drive out in around 3hrs with just hand tools lol.

thanks for the offer will, but im in hawaii..so unless youre on vacation.. :D hahah, and i'll deff. get the flywheel resurfaced/ rebuilt..everyone seems to agree on that part ... lol if 10 people who've done it before say to do it..well, cant argue with that shiet.

and wright, i took it to a shop..the did a shitty job, i took it back, still bad, took it back, yet again..it got even WORSE + they took a MONTH to work on it..so fck them, ill never go back to those fcks again..

oh..did i mention they put a giant ass dent in the quarter panel? god, i hate those bastards. i didnt want to bother sueing their ass on the dent, since i have little ones anyways... but im still pissed. its a giant palm-sized dent...on a dentfree car -except for the dimples that form on the quarter panels..

two weeks til this gets started.. cant wait! hahah im hoping and wishing ill do this right. :]

hey mr P, where can i go about getting a factory manual? GM dealership? ebay? it'd be more helpful than a pos haynes/chiltons manual..

no one said you had to sue them... you just have to say you're going to...

who said anything about suing? threaten to burn their building to the ground with them locked inside.

haha..the thing is, i feel bad since i did take a lot of their time.. and you know, i was really really dissapointed but frick, i figure i might as well learn to do it myself, since i got a cheap clutch @ 250$...(supposedly good for 500hp..?)

i do tell everyone tho, i figure if thats how they treat customers, they'd be outta biz soon anyways..

First, NEVER "feel bad" for a shop that can't "get it right". They take your money. They owe you a quality job. If they don't have a qualified technician, they should NOT take your money...

Yes, GM dealer is the best place. Try E-rape, but you may get a cheap knock-off.

Get a helms manual...Believe it's http://helmsinc.com/ That's where i got my manual and it's badass! They go on sale from time to time but run around 100-150 new...Definitely worth it!
