Changed the oil yesterday on the GF's car, and didnt realize until after the fact that someone put the incorrect filter in the box.... It looked exactly the same as the previous one and went on fine...

The one it calls for is a Fram 3593, a Fram 3506 was in the box.. Is this a major cause for concern??

The filter's by pass valve is set for a specific pressure on a specific engine. When the main line is clogged the valve will open. As long as filter and oil are new there is no cloggs, but in the future it may damage the engine.
Replace filter with a new one and that would be it.

Since all the oil (almost all) will be in the oil pan you will loose only a little bit of oil. Top it off and that is it.

I would do it on the cold engine so the oil will be a little thicker.

Good luck,

Sam

I do not think so.
You will get a little spill from the oil that is already in filter, but that will be it.

Just unscrew the old one, lubricate the seal on the new one and put it back.
Make sure oil level is correct.
