Sluggish cruise control, pedal lets go

The cruise control on my '95 Civic LX sedan is slow to respond to inputs from the buttons to accelerate:sleeping:, and is a bit sloppy about maintaining a preset cruise speed.
It will allow the car to vary +/- 3 or 4 mph when going up/downhill. Also, if I am on cruise at 60 mph, and press accel to increase speed, the system suddenly kicks out and completely lets go of the throttle at 70 mph:cya:. I have to press the dash cruise button to switch it off, then back on to reset the cruise system, then set the cruise on the wheel button again. If you ask it to increase from 70 to whatever it works fine, have no idea why the cable seems to let go in this range:screwy:. Checked throttle and cruise cables for slack/loose connections, all seems tight and moves easily

Check for a broken/bad vacuum line going into the cruise control box, under the hood.
