175K .....IT began in the summer. When the motor was cold. Upon trying to start, it would stall. It would happen a few times and then I could feather it to keep running. If I put it in gear, it would almost die. Kind of like no fuel. This problem comes and goes. Usually goes away when warm. One time it kind of stayed. It was running lean and It wanted to detonate under load. I changed the fuel filter. and cleaned the throttle body. It seemed better. Now it is cold and it is back.???? I pulled the egr and the valve moves and was closed. I was going to block it off while it was off........HELP!!?? Is there a choke???

Thanks!

Welcome to AF.
No chokes anymore. \
Everything is computer controlled.
If you tune up end is good and no check engine lights.
The leading cause of hard to start cold is low fuel pressure?

Hard to start cold and fuel pressure testing guide line.
Check cold start fuel pressure.
Check engine running fuel pressure.
Check engine running on the road fuel pressure.
Then shut it off and watch for fast leak down.
Pinch off at rubber part or block off return line and check full pressure.
If pump has full pressure with return line blocked and low pressure without it blocked most usually the fuel pressure regulator is leaking or not holding pressure.
Later V6 and V8 gm engines should have 60-66 fuel pressure.
Cold start should be 64-65 lbs of pressure.
If you do not have full fuel pressure on a cold start the injectors will not squirt fuel.
Do not leave home without it.
Engine running should be 60-66 lbs pressure depending on engine load.
Full pressure with return pinched off should be 75-85 or more.
And if it has a fast leak down after shut off you have a leak in system.
Post back fuel pressure readings.

Sounds like good infe. I think it is squirting the "start up" fuel cuz it will fire and stall, I wait, fire and stall. No throttle position matters. It only thas enough fuel to fire and quit. I am believing it is the computer. I was having starting issues at the same time my computer was on the frittz. It was causing gauge and trans issues. The starting thing came and went for months prior. It was in dire need of a tune... Coil arcing, wires worn and plugs worn to .080. I just need it to run... I'm gonna try the old computer and see if it will run next. I put my chip into the other (used ) box.... hum

Alll answers appreciated as I am broke in mi. and need my fan to get on the road something serious.

Thank you!
