Cold Air Intake

Okay, I want to purchase a Cold air intake but I need to know what shape/style to get. Iv'e been reading other posts and it seems alot of people have to remove the battery along with some other things inorder to get the intake in place neatly. I have a 1997 Cavalier 2.2L. The brand doesen't matter to me I just need the right style. Thanks alot.

If you want a CAI, your going to have to remove the inner fender well liner no matter what, but with our CAI we make out of Stainless, you do not have to move the battery at all. If you interested shoot me an e-mail...

So how hard is it to install a CAI? And any walkthrough photos would be great. I went reading more about installing the CAI and it says that you have to remove the well liner and the driver side tire,is this true? I just want something that looks nice and goes in easy. Not looking for something costly and something to make my car faster.

then a cold air intake is not what your looking for, it MIGHT add 4-5 horsepower on that 2.2 of yours, which might barely be enough to notice (feel) , but dont expect it to turn your car into a race winner or anything

I am going to assume you are a female by your user name. If you have no idea what you are doing, i would say it will take no longer than 45mins-hr to install one. I can do one when the engine is cold ( lol ) is about 15 mins.

1) Disconnect your IAT sensor from the black flex hose and tuck it carefully out of the way. Remove top flex hose from black air box and throttle body. Also for you unhook your throttle cable from it as well.
2) In bottom of black air remove the screws holding it down. Its only pressed onto the lower " bong portion" in the fender well.
3) Remove fender well liner with wheel off the vehicle to make it easier to access.
4) There is 3-4 screws holding the "bong" in place, rip that worthless piece of shit out of there. Its also attached to your windshield fluid reservoir so be careful.
5) Slide CAI portion down behind batter and install the air filter onto the end of that unit.
6) Install the top portion to the throttle body and then attach both sections together as one unit.
7) Button everything back up.


Your not going to get a lot of gains like jake said, but you will feel it pull a lot more in your bottom end and it sounds a lot meaner. Or if you choose to drive like a normal person, they do increase your fuel economy of your not always stomping on the gas pedal.

Hi, no that's not what I meant. I mean it does not have to make my car faster or anything like that, it's mainly for looks that's all.

Thanks classicrocjunkie, very well put. I was hoping I didn't have to remove the tire but I guess I have to. I know it's not going to make my car faster but it will make under the hood look alot nicer. Thanks again for your help.

you might not have to remove your wheel, but you at least need to raise the car up in the air and turn the wheel all the way in so you can work in that small space. The "bong" is long in length but narrow.
