Hi everyone.

I just picked up a 1992 Eagle Talon That won't start for $1200.

It's a 1992 FWD and it has a 1994 engine with a turbo from a 2003 Lancer, full 3" turboback, intake, manual boost controller, turbo timer, nice 16" OZ F1 wheels, etc......the engine and turbo was installed professionally by the previous owner's mechanic at a cost of a little over $2700 a little over a year ago.

The care will turn over fine if it has a good battery in it.

Apparently it ran fine in the fall, then was parked because it wasn't needed for about a month. When the guy went back to pick it up and put it up for sale, it wouldnt start.

I know im looking for an electrical problem of some sort, and once i get home from work tonight i'll be making sure i have good spark before i decide it's definitely a fuel system issue.

Is anyone familiar with fuel system diagnostics on these cars who could help me out? Like what relays to check, what fuel pump wire to verify has power, before i go dropping the tank?

Also, when the key is in the "on" position with a weak battery, there is a strange electrical buzzing sound coming from the underhood fuse box; seems to be the "HEAD" relay.

Thanks for your help....im driving an 81 malibu around in the snow that gets 12 mpg and is slow as hell; want to get this car on the road so i can start driving it.

Thanks.

There may be more than one relay or fuse to check. I know when I purchased my 1993 MX-3 , it had sat for 3 1/2 years in some old womans back yard :/ Claiming it had ran before parked .

So knowing the age of the vehicle , fluids and wear possibilities , I towed it home , did my own tune up on it : oil , spark cables , new radiator hoses , new water pump , new fuel filter , new fuses all through and attempted to start it up but it would never fire..after many hours I managed to trace it down to an injector relay and fuse that kept popping.

With your car I would do some simple things before trying to force it to start anymore - Fuel filter , Oil change , Perhaps some plugs and then give it a shot. Also , with the FUEL Pump issue , you can pull the injector fuse with a good battery in the car and force it to release the fuel line pressure then put it back and turn the car to 'On' but not attempt to start it. If the fuel pump is any good , should start pumping and you'll hear it whine in the tank.

Good luck..im no 1G master but hopefully some of this helps.

I had a similer problem with a 92 eclipse that was a 4G67 1.8

Couldnt find the problem for the life of me but as soon as I replaced the plugs it started right up and ran on 3 cylinders... lol (had a bad ECU) but the plugs were the reason it wouldnt start.

In this type of situation I would say at least pick up a cheap set of plugs from autozone and put them in and try it. Then look at wires and maybe the coil pack? After that do the fuel system. The fuel pump relay should be up under the radio area on the floor (near the ECU) its a goldish small metal block with a plug on the back that may or may not be mounted to the radio mounts up in there. Also check the fuel pump plug in the trunk to make sure its connected properly and that no water seeped in and got it. (I had that problem when I didnt close my trunk all the way)

There is a diagnostic port under the hood for the fuel pump near the battery. Connect a jumper wire from the positive terminal to the plug and it will energize the fuel pump. Turning the key to the ON position will not turn the fuel pump on. It only comes on when the engine is cranking.

And a EVO 8 motor in a 1st gen?? PICS!!!!
