My 2001 Eclipse GS (manual transmission) has an occassional crank problem. Every so often, when attempting to start the car, the engine will not turnover at all. When selecting the key to the start postion, with the clutch pushed in all the way, neutral gear, all the engine dash lights are normal, but the starter does not turnover the engine. There are no spurious noises during the start sequence. After waiting a period of time, the car starts normally. There is no specific pattern to the problem - sometimes cold, somtimes hot. It's been to the shop twice, but they could not duplicate the problem and had no suggestions.:banghead:
Any ideas appreciated....thanks.

So is the starter spinning at all when it has the problem?

No, nothing happens, except the dash lights come on normally.

Sounds like possibly a bad relay to the starter.

Thx, how difficult is it to check and change?

Well, it isn't very hard to change, but that's not to say thats exactly the problem though. I would pick up a Chiltons manual for it and see if they have any other ideas in there under their troubleshooting. If not, then they will have the diagrams/locations you need to find the relay and usually a small "how to" on testing the relay in there. Hope that helps ya out some.

There is absolutely no need for this kind of attitude around here. You are in no position to be talking to anybody like that. :nono:
