HELP - '99 Rodeo won't start / has good battery

This just started about a month ago as the weather started to get cold (related?) but I'll get in and turn the key, but it just gives me a single click (not a constant clicking from the starter), then after about 10 minutes of this frustration :banghead:, she'll finally catch and fire up. It seems that if I can manage to finesse the key just right, it'll start a bit quicker, and this does seems to minimize when it is warmer (ie: not sitting all night)

I'm thinking it may be the ignition switch itself ... any ideas?

Sounds to me like the starter.....sorry. Mine would do this last winter too...when it was warmer it might fire on the 2-3rd shot, if it was colder, it may only click once or several times, then fire, if at all.

I vote starter, too. Hope you have 2wd.

I found out this morning it's the starter, and no ... it's a 4WD and is certainly a challenge trying to replace it.

Any 'tricks of the trade' that might be helpful? I've changed out starters before, but they've always been on Chevy SB or even Mopar - this is the first foreign vehicle I've owned.

I just wanted to say thanks for the replies! This is an update ... I've searched through more postings (seems there was another one that had the same starter symptoms) and have scrounged up another jack for the engine. In the process now of trying to complete the extraction of the old and installation of the new.
