Looking at expanding my network...

Well I have been going back and forth with myself about this for months now and I need to decide... Right now all my internal hard drives are loaded up and my external hard drive has finally hit the edge as well... I had contemplated just getting another larger external but then started considering other options... I wanted to setup something that I could access via my network from any computer at my home. 6 to be exact... Plus any guest computers I may have at the time...
Well, I was surfing around newegg tonight and came across this little beauty...

Now, my experience with servers and such is not the best, but I know enough to set it up. Of course this doesn't help me in knowing whether or not this sounds like a decent little device. I thought, for what it is and the low price, I really can't say no to it. It will fit every one of my needs for this expansion... It even offers 2 USB ports for expanding to extra hard drives if necessary. I thought this would be great for my current external drive and possibly another future one once this is filled... I'll have no problem setting it up with my router on my network, but I just don't know if I should go with this one or not. This brand "Lacie" is a new one that I haven't heard of before. Does anybody else have any experiences with it? Opinions on this "mini-server" as it seems to be. lol...
I'm open to all advice on the matter... :)

Why not just get another 500gb or larger external or even internal if space allows and then have that drive or whatever drives or folders you want shared across the network then you don't have to worry about setting up a NAS unit. If it was me I'd just get a couple 1TB drives slap them inside the system and go with that.

It looks solid for exactly what you want to do...store files and be able to access them easily from any location. Lacie is a good brand, they have been around for awhile now. Looks like that product got mostly decent reviews also.

The reason I am going with a NAS setup is so I won't need to have a specific computer on to access my files when I want them. Hence why I looked at new options besides just a new external hdd. I thought about a second 500gb external to link to this so I'll have a 1tb network of storage. I think it will be a much better investment than going with a mini server tower or anything else... Price wise anyways... And really the competition is there for this against any mini server tower IMO...

Looks pretty decent. Do they offer 1 or 2TB units? I'd get one a bit higher capacity so you don't run into capacity issues for a while.

Unfortunately no... They only have a 500gb unit. Which is why I thought about just connecting another 500gb hdd to it via the usb so I have 1tb to lean on for the next year or two...
