Mercedes SLK & BMW Z3

Here are my Tamiya Mercedes SLK and BMW Z3 models. They were built about 10 years ago, when the models first came out. Well-built then, but not so much today, given the collection of dust, broken parts, handling, etc. They still look alright, though. The SLK is painted Boyd's True Blue, while the Z3 is painted Revell Metallic Blue, which I bought in Munich in 1996 when the car was first launched. The SLK's shifter is missing - I have no idea where that went; if anyone has a spare, PM me! Thanks :grinyes:

Both are very well done, very clean builds. The interiors of both are especially nice, great job. I sure like the blues on both. The scripts and emblems are perfect.

Sweet! What interior colors did you use on these two cars?

They are custom-mixed Model Master colors with semi-gloss over them. I mixed the colors to replicate the stock interiors. The SLK's interior is a very light gray, but shows up kind of yellowish in the photos. The Z3's is two-toned tan.

Aren't they awful? It perplexes me that Tamiya didn't model the standard 16 inch five spoke wheels.

A little update on the Z3. I finally got around to painting the FG Model wheels. I was a little disappointed to find out that the spindles are too small compared to the original Tamiya wheel spindles. I ended up gluing the wheels on.

A terrific improvement on the Z3! Now paint the wheel nuts black.
Kind of stunning to realize that both cars kits are 20 years old now. It was a great era both for Tamiya and BMW. (You need a Boxter to complete the set!)
I edited your thread title- even billing for both! ;)

Thanks!
I do have a silver/red boxster from that era. I'll take some photos and you can edit the title further. I'm also working on a red version, but with the carrera wheels and an Acu-stion photoetch set.

Nice "revival era" roadsters.
I miss my 1:1 Z3s. They were great cars and excellent drivers.
Good thing I still have the shoe.
