02 Grand Prix GT (Headlights/Whining Noise)

About two weeks ago, whenever I turned on the air conditioning the day-time running lights would switch off and then continue to go on and off every 10 seconds or so while making a "clicking" noise from inside the console. I'm guessing this "clicking" noise is simply the lights switching on and off, similar to that of them changing from day-time running to normal night lights in the evening? Also, when the air conditioning is turned back off, it would still continue to have this problem of going off and on. In addition, the display on the center console (Oil Life, MPG, etc) also goes off and sometimes attempts to come back on (glitching letters/numbers off and on). Thankfully, manualing turning on the night headlights works and prevents the flashing of my headlights but the AC still will not work as well as the display on the center console.

I had the car taken to a well-known mechanic in town who said that he he could not determine how to fix it and probably would require a couple days of looking over electronics and wiring.

Finally, the car also makes a "whining" noise when accelerating but eventually stops once you make it to 60+ mph. The direction of turning does not make a difference as it makes the same noise whether going straight or left or right. I read that this is fairly common problem, and it might be the power steering fluid or transmission fluid. I'll be checking this tomorrow but let's say that it is not the problem, so what could be another one?

I'd really appreciate any solutions. Thanks a lot!

Welcome to AF.

First check out your battery and charging system for proper output. Check the positive and negative cables to include the terminals at the battery. Check for good grounding.

If the above is good and based on your symptoms in your first paragraph you may have a bad ignition switch.
