Transmission Shifting Problems

I am having problems with jerky shifting on a 1995 Grand Prix 3.1 liter. Would the PCS cause the car to not downshift at the right time? My car will upshift and when I slow down it won't downshift at the right time causing it to want to push the car against braking. And if I slow down and then hit the gas it feels like a manual transmission when you are in too high of a gear. When the car upshifts it jerks.

Yes it could. Take the car to someone with a trans capable scanner and have the computer scanned. They will be able to tell you the problem within a few minutes. PCS replacement costs about $500.

No PCS in a 95. Possilbe your TCC is not unlocking.

I hooked up the diagnostic tester and the torque converter was locking 100% in 2nd gear. I think it is a broken TCC orifice tube and screen assembly. This would cause unrestricted flow to the TCC solenoid causing early lock-up.

I see you must of read my other post. If its fully locked up in 2nd thats your problem. A transgo shift kit can fix this.

I am workin on fixing my car right now and I am having problems removing the transaxle side cover. The book says to use the dowel pin holes and insert a bolt to jack the cover away from the trans. I only find one dowl pin hole. Also, are there check balls inside of the side cover. I found 9 when I removed the control valve body assembly, are there more?

How far are you going in? You don't have to take the chain cover off if the filter spun off. There are 4 check balls on the chain cover and 5 small and one large check ball in the valve body. If you have a transgo shift kit they have all the locations also
