i have a chirp in my 92 astro. when i start it up it chirps,when it get 30+mph it usually goes away, and a bit more to it when i back up , i check the belts and seems tight. is it the belt (serpitine)? thoughts anyone,thanks

Could be the belt, the belt tensioner, or even the idler pulley. Might even be the fan is hitting the fan shroud or alternator bushings. It could be any number of things. Remove the belt and see if the noise goes away. Don't run the engine more than a minute or so without the belt...(no water pump, alternator or power steering).

thank you i will give it a try, would you think a good idea to just replace the belt as to haveing it off any way?

Try turning each accessory by hand to locate the noise. If there are no abnormal noises, replace the belt. Get a good belt, not a cheapie.
