Transmission issues ?

Hey guys,

I have an '03 escape that has trouble dropping into gear. I ran the car for 20 minutes this morning before trying to change from park to drive with no response. Park to reverse - no response. Park to first... you get the picture.

Any ideas on why it would be having problems dropping into a gear ? I bought it used and it ran fine in the summer, but now as the weather gets colder (living in Edmonton Alberta, Canada), I seem to be having some issues with the transmission.

Problem #2
Once I finally get the dang thing moving, I see that the O/D Off light will start flashing all of a sudden. I read somewhere that this might be an issue with the PCV Valve, but was looking for a second (and very trusted) opinion...
