It starts out in Vegas. Then you convoy out to Ely, Nevada where the start is. And race 90 miles south.
When the Nova is done, Im going to build me a purpous built race car... Street racing just seems stupid now... Drag racing is still cool.. but its over too quick.
Me and my best friend/navigator are looking into 82-86 Pontiac Firebirds, add a Knight Rider front body kit including scanning light. Paint it black and go bombimg throught the desert.
Not to mention the 500 horsepower motor we're going to smack into the car. Followed by a 6spd tranny.
We figure it'll do about 160-170mph flat out... if not faster.:bloated:
Anybody care to join us? hehehe

damn.. sounds awesome.. what motor are you planning to put in? 383 stroker??
problem with the A/S mustang... no room for navigator seat... the cage is in the way... so perhaps we can borrow his brothers 1.8T a4

we're looking a few motors.. all making about 500hp.
I think we've settled on a 377ci. V8 Which can turn upwards of 7000rpm. Good for road racing.
This particular motor makes 502hp @ 6500rpm 462tq @ 4500rpm.
Fun fun fun!

That would be fun. Makes me want to beg my cousin to go through his collection for one of his top performers. (Hmm, 9th to last ZR-1 produced, 1959 Impala with dual 4 barrel carb 348, or Roger Penske's personal Ferrari 308GTS?)

What they don't tell you is that at the finish line there are 100 state troopers waiting to haul you off:D j/k
It sounds like it might be fun, but Nevada's highway are neither scenic nor exciting. Doing 140 on a flat highway with no scenery will seem like 55MPH... unless all the racers leave the starting line at once, then you have to move up the ploe position! Now that is fun!!!

Nope, you start off in 1 minute intervals.
And the road traveled isnt exactly straight and level. Its got turns and hills, blind corners and a real techinical section.
I still think it'll be fun. :)

Nahhh, Ill probably have a race worthy car for the 2005 September race. Even that seems a bit short, but it also depends if I can land this new job. If I do, i'll be making enough to afford the Car.

Yeah, I plan on running El Burro... we're going to run the unlimited class 180mph+.
Eat us some Vipers.
Oh Polygon, I believe the previous standing record was done in a LeBaron at 207.7801mph in 2000. Thought you'd like to know.
This year It was taken by a 96 Camaro, top speed of 215mph... averaged 196.7608mph. Traveled the 90miles in just over 27 minutes.
El Burro will show them.

True i did not think about it that way. When your pushing 1 burro=1500hp, you need all the down force you can get on those 14's! Maybe a spoiler of some sort.

I will have to tell my friend about that one! The one with the Beetle. He is a rotary/RX-7 expert. He's got a 87' RX-7 in one of his garages. I don't know what he is planning on doing with it just yet. All I see is a gutted white RX-7??? You never know with this kid.
-The Stig-

That RX7 would be nice, but I doubt it would survive the 90 miles at highspeeds. Hehe especially with those tires.
But something that light you would probably run into the same problem I had with my SBC 240Z idea for this race. Highspeed stability might become an issue... trying to take a turn at 130+mph you might just skitter off into the a stationary object.
Thats why i choose something a bit heavier and that had a wider track, plus a knight rider car would be badass. even though we might go pre-73 with a classic firebird or camaro so we can still drive it on the street.
Ever see somebody get hussled into racing a car built for highspeeds on the highways? Imagine there faces when the car goes from 60mph to 160mph in no time. muwahahahahaha.
TV: We'll have our fun at the races.

I wouldn't trust the aerodynamics of an 80s Firebird at those speeds... The RX7 is a good pick because of it's light weight, and easy availability of ground effects stuff.
You have to remember, you're more likely to run into troubles with a heavier car at high speeds, as it will put more stress on the tires, and you just have physically more weight to move around.
I was thinking of something along these lines...
http://www.erebunicorp.com/images/autos1/RX7357f.jpghttp://www.erebunicorp.com/images/autos1/RX7357r.jpg
It's got a very low drag coeffecient, lots of room for a big engine, and it's very light...

Make sure it's not too high mileage, or you'll be in for a rebuild... It's probably going to take $50 in parts to make it turn 9s...

Cbass you dont like anything that isnt a 1st gen RX7 or you beloved little Porche. :D
Trust me, an 80s Firebird has a good drag coefficiency. The extra weight isnt a problem, reason why you run ZR rated tires. Stiffin the suspension up a bit and at speed it'll hang with best of them. Cause they do, Im in touch with another ORR racer who lives about 2 miles from me. Runs an 80s Camaro, now you tell me which car has the better front end? Firebird!
But this guys Camaro is tricked out so he'd most likely kick my ass in the race. Him and I are scheduling to meet up and discuss car options. He's in texas now working for a Porche Racing Team. So I've gotta wait.:(

Haha, it's true, so true :D
Doing those sort of speeds, you want to have as little air going under that car as possible, and I don't see all that many flush air dams for Firebirds.
The RX7 is a fairly narrow car, which would be good for higher speeds... We'll see when I get the Rex running, I'll pit my 170mph RX7 against what you've got :D

How about a 1986 Aerostar with a supercharged 3.8 liter V6 from a T-Bird? I figure it should make around 300hp/400ftlbs with basic tuning... little things, porting, headers and custom exhaust, and around 14 psi boost. Also, it uses the EEC IV, so I can get a tuner for it and everything.
I'm looking for a SC parts car now, I also want to grab the Bird seats and rear suspension, not to mention the 4 wheel discs and ABS.
