I dont really now how to adjust my rear drum brakes.

are 89 si's self adjusting? am i supposed to stick a screwdriver where the plug in the drum is?. i was told it should turn and have some drag at lest half way is this true?

any help on how to adjust them would be greatly appricated thanks.

If you do adjust them manually put a very slight drag on them. They are/should be self adjusting. Although they may be so old that they wont adjust.

To do it you simply drive backwards for a few feet as fast as you feel comfortable and jam on the brakes. Do that 2-3 times just to be sure.

to adjust them manually, yes, stick a flathead in the space where the plug is... chances are, they're stuck/sticking so they don't adjust, or the springs are worn. next time you change your rears, get a new adjuster, or at least that that one apart and clean it, and get a drum kit. (new springs and retainers)
