Installing head unit, help!

I bought a new head unit and can't figure out how to connect it. I bought the Scosche GM-035 wiring harness (everyone told me to get the wiring harness for a 2000 Tracker and it'd work but I'd lose the chimes). I thought it would be plug and play but I had to join all the wires. So I plugged in the wiring harness into my car, then joined all the wires from the head unit to the wires which matched colors on the other end of the wiring harness. However the wiring harness has 2 more wires (black) than the head unit. Then I joined what I assume is the grounding wire from the head unit to a screw.
When I turn the ignition back, the head unit spins for about 2 seconds, then stops. I plug in the faceplate but nothing happens. What am I doing wrong?
My car btw is an 05 Sunfire with the base model (non-Monsoon, non-mp3) CD deck.

I had the same problem and i have a 05 sunfire..
You need to take the ignition wire or the 12V switched power wire and put it into your fuse box..

How do I know which wire is the ignition wire? Also is there a way to do it that doesn't involve running wires all over my car, I want it to look professional when I'm done.

the best thing to do is to get the power from your window wiper fuse.. make sure you put it on the wiper side of the fuse ( take the wire and test it on both sied to find the side that DOES NOT turn on with the fuse out and ignition on)... and run it in the crack where your fusebox is back through the dashboard ( be sure not to put it thru anything that moves!!)
ive done that to countless cars - for a professional price

Thanks for the help everyone, but I'm not sure what a window wiper fuse is. Where do I find it and how do I get power from it? Do you mean the fuse box that is to the left of the steering wheel when you open the door?
