BCM Module troubles

I brought my 2003 Grand Am into the shop because the horn no longer worked. The mechanic fixed it by taking off the steering wheel. It now works, but now 1/2 of the electrical equipment doesn't work, ie. door locks, trunk release, some dash lights, dome lights, etc. After a few hours of troubleshooting, the mechanic found that 1/2 of the BCM no longer works.
Why would this have happened? How does a BCM fail, and then only half of it?

Welcome to AF.
IT is most likly because a short occured causing the BCM to burn out a few cicuits. Probly when the horn shorted .
Though the BCM could have been bad prior to you purchasing it, then for whatever reason something shorted again finishing it off.
A used one will work, but a dealer will need to do a relearn procedure, could cost $40-100 for that.
A used BCM in a salvage yard around $50-100.
A new BCM, $500 plus a relearn. :yikes:
