2003 Eddie Bauer heated seat problem

Both heated seats are not working. The dash indicators toggle on and off with the switches but the little indicator lights on the switches do not come on. The fuse is good in the fuse panel. Any suggestions for next steps would be appreciated.

There are two fuses for the heated seats, a 10 amp (F2.10) that feeds the switches, and a 20 amp (F2.2) for the heated seat module.

The heated seats are also tied in to the Dual Automatic Temperature Control (DATC). You may want to engage the self diagnostics for the DATC to see if it implies a problem with the heated seats.

Do you know if the heated seats ever worked? IE: are you sure you are doing the right sequence of events to get them to heat, such as a certain temperature setting threshhold on the DATC, etc.? The heated seat module is designed to heat the seat to 37.5 C (99.5 F) and maintain the temperature until time-out or switched off.

If you are certain that you are turning the seats on correctly, but they are not heating, the factory service manual offers the following:

Thanks for responding. The seats worked in the past, I can't see the 10 amp fuse for them in my manual only the 20. For the self diagnostics are you referring to a code reading device?

The DATC has it's own self-diagnostics that can be accessed without a scan tool. You press a sequence of buttons on the climate control keypad and the flourescent display will inform you of issues that the DATC recognizes. A professional scan tool will provide slightly more information that what is available through the self-diagnostics, but the self-test is a good start.
