I have a 93 G. I just got to mile-marker 111,111 yesterday. Thats when it all went downhill. So, the parking brake light came on, then it just stayed on, as well as the little light next to it on the dash that is a picture of a battery (My battery is only like 3 months old, so thats not it.) When I was driving home this morning, on the expressway, for some reason, my stereo kept turning off, and then on again. Then, I noticed that when I went to roll the windows up or down, the cruise control would turn off. Then. . .My speedometer stopped working, along with my tach. It said I was going 0. . .but I was definetly moving. So, by this point I was getting kinda mad. Then, I got off the expressway, and 1 mile from my house, my car died. So, I called my dad, and he woke up, and helped me out, by giving me a jump. The only thing that confuses me is that my battery wasn't dead. All the interior lights worked in my car, and my stereo worked fine, and everything worked fine, except that my car wouldn't start! After I got a jump though, it fired right up. I was wondering if anyone could tell me what this problem was and how I could fix it.
Anyhow, I really need help with this problem, the dashlights still come on (the parking brake and the battery one.) So, please please please help me. Thanks.

Sounds like you have one or more faulty ignition relays. These are the ones that power up the various circuits when you turn the ignition switch through the various positions. The faulty relay/s are likely intermittently switching while your driving and may need to be replaced or they may have faulty connections. Dealership or good auto electrician should be able to fix it up fairly quickly and cheaply. Guy I work with had similar problems on his Ford and it just ended up being one of these relays.
If it aint the above, maybe the ignition switch itself is faulty or has bad connections.
Otherwise........your car is haunted:eek: :o :) :p :D

Your alternator croaked.

I think P10DET's diagnosis is far more likely than mine. Be careful about driving it around like this - I've heard of ECUs getting fried when the voltage drops too far (coz then the current increases and burns things out).

Just have a good look at how it's all mounted and you'll work it out ok. Remember to disconnect the battery before beginning. Some people drain the cooling system and remove the top radiator hose for easier access.
Haynes manual 1851 (UK Primera) has good instructions for removal/refitting and replacing the regulator and brushes. It covers the Bosch, Magneti Marelli and Mitsibishi alternators. Alternatively you could source a 2nd hand one or a reconditioned exchange unit.
A good auto electrician will have a machine for running up and loading the alternator to test it first before replacing/repairing it.
You may find it's easier to just take it to a good auto electrician and get them to do the lot, then you get some comeback if it all goes wrong. Also it may not cost as much as you might think. If you do it all yourself you'll only be saving a couple of hours labour off the bill - maximum. Good luck.

I had Andrea Miko ( from the SER Forum ) get me one and He installed for me . Well he supervised me installing it. It was not hard if you have someone who know what they are doing. But I suggest getting the Haynes manual or getting Henry to fly to your house and help ....
It took Andrea less than an hour.. he siad it would have been faster if I was not helping ...
My atll. was a Hyundai altenator @#%#%$^ got a genuine NissN.
