squeeling problem

well i have a 95 talon tsi awd and it was squeeling every time i started it or used heat or system or lights but then i replaced it and it didnt squeel for two days then tonight it was cold out and i dont know if that means anything but it sqeulled again starting it like a constent squeel for 30 secs i cant figure if its my alternator or something else..think its my subs?

It could be that the belt is just simply too loose, that would explain why it would squeel when it was cold because the belt hardens up a bit when it gets cold so it doesn't grab as good on the pulleys, too loose I think is your problem. Try snugging the belt up a bit more.

Next time you have your belt off, spin the pulley on the alternator, and make sure it spins freely, and doesn't lock up. When you put the belt on make sure the alternators charging like it should. If all of that is good, its probably just the belt that needs tightening. Just don't overtighten it, that will cause the bearings in the alternator to wear prematurely.

Whatever you do, do NOT put that belt shit on them to stop the squeeling, it'll just make it worse in the long run. Tighten the belts and the squeeling will go away, UNLESS you have a fluid that's dripping onto the belts from somewhere. I had a coolant leak that would drip on the accessory belt from time to time and made an awful squeeling noise, fixed the leak and no more squeel.

How about you take the idler pulley off and slap some grease in there between the bearing and the pulley itself. If there is no grease in there it doesn't matter how many times you tighten it, its gonna squel like bastard, maybe even loosen up.

The pulley itself wouldn't make a loud squealing noise if it was dry, it would make more of a grinding noise, but lubing it up never hurts either.

As for the belt, are you sure the pulleys are in line? What about the alternator, is it bolted down hard?

when I floor my car in 3rd at 60 mph it squeals too. I'm hoping to get an AWD swap that will fix that problem though..
