I just bought an 01 1500 z71 last week and it is great. The only problem I am having is a clunk when ever I stop and go. I thought it was U joints but there is no whirring and the drive shaft is tight. Any ideas would be great, Tim.

Do a search for "clunk".

It is a common problem, more like irritation, that almost all of these trucks have. GM considers it normal, and it doesn't hurt anything.

Ant common spots b/c it is driving me nuts. Anybody ever have to tighten the leaf spring shackles?

It may be your slip yoke. I replaced mine with a nickel plated Yoke and the clunk went away. you can get it at the dealer.

I had the dreaded clunk in my 2000 ext. cab 5.3 and it drove me nuts. I put spring helpers on because I was told it would stop the clunk...it didn't. I found a post here about replacing the fluid in the transfer case with the newer fluid from the dealer...Auto Trac II I think it's called and it stopped the clunk instantly.
