I just bought a used truck of a local website www.chicagolandauto.com (http://www.chicagolandauto.com/), not that it matters, but anyways its a 2003 GMC Sierra and has 50,000. The truck needs some new tires and have been looking around, but not sure what to get. I live in Chicago, so we do get some snow, but not a lot. I don't go off roading and don't really drive on the highways that much. Basically it is local roads. I am looking for a good tire for these conditions. I was thinking about Goodyear wrangler rt/s, but not sure. Anyone have any ideas of what a good tire would be. I did find this website that shows some ratings, but any help would be great.

You know I bought set of 4 tires from the Tire Rack and regretted it. I don't know if they sell seconds or what at those bargain prices but no one could balance the Goodyear Wranglers AT/S that I got. 2 different tire shops and 2 GM dealers had trouble. Each tires had about 6 oz on them and they still shook the truck at 55 mph. The price you pay buying them is no one locally gives a heck about it. Not only did it cost me $80 to have them mounted and balanced the first time. I cost me another $100+ trying to balance them up the other times. The local GY dealer said he would have replaced them if they came from him.

So don't be fooled by low price, you cannot return them and a local dealer will tell you to go back where you bought them.

My new 2008 GMC came with the same tire but a different tread pattern unique to GM. They seem like good tires, a little aggresive and some noise but not bad.

If you want to buy the best and have a tire to go 75,000 miles easily, get the Michelin LTX M+S. I have never found a better tire.

As for Bridgestones, my last 2 GMC's came with those and they were junk in less than 20,000 miles. I had more flat tires and even a tred separtion on one. A real cheap tire IMO, seem to have a lot of defects. The only reason they seem popular is the price. But you get what you pay for.

If I could get 4 NEW Bridgestones for nothing, I would turn them down. Its not just me. A GM service manager I have know for over 30 yrs tell me that have had a lot of disgruntaled customers with those OEM Bridgestones and all the tire problems.

I was very impressed with Michelin LTX A/T, great in the rain, I was playing on the flooded highways of cape cod during the recent nor easter that hit, 2-3" of flood water for miles.
I got a bit of an inside scoop on the tires when a buddy offered me a great deal on tires at a shop he was working part time. When I showed up asking for the LTX's he said he couldn't knock down the price, because there was already next to no mark up on them. If I got Good years for example, he could knock about $100 off the same price as the Michelins.
I went to a competitor that had mounting and balancing for free and the sales guy kept telling me the Toyo tire they sell exclusivley were the best out there (bigger commission)
Tire rack had some great reviews by customers worth reading even if you don't order from them
