Automatic trunk lid retractor

My automatic trunk lid retractor cycled while I had my trunk opened and seems somehow to have gotten out of sync.

My remote fob activates the locking latch just fine. It latches onto the retracting foot okay. The foot just won't draw the lid down to its fully closed and locked postiion. The fuse is fine. I doubt that the retracting motor is bad.

The manual only shows how to remove the latching mechanism and motor - nothing about how to adjust/sync.
