you know, i'm looking for the same engine swap....unfortunately my car is still under warranty....the 8V SPI Engine and the Zetec-E Engine are (i think) the same crankcase....if it is, you might wanna just get a Zetec-E head set and convert your SPI Engine to a Zetec-E Engine.:D

Replying to KeleKe, the 2.0L blocks in the Ford Focus are not the same, totally different for the set up the Dohc 16 valve and the 8 valve, as a ford master tech i have seen these engines in and out:smoker2:

Thanks BigCheech I taught they had the same crankcase (121 CID) meaning that the heads could be swapped with a little conversion or "block" remolding...Anyways...:D Would or could it be possible to install a Zetec-E Engine into a Focus that has/had an 8V SPI Engine in it? I need help in this area here. :D

sure swapping out the spi for the zetec will be alot easier...all the mounts are the same, you would need to swap out the pcm and engine wire harness. A friend of mine and i are actually going to do the swap to his car this coming weekend:sun:

Cool beans, so how much would it cost me to fly you out to Maui to do a SPI/Zetec Engine Swap in my Focus Sedan? :D

haha, small fortune huh? hehe, well thanks again mate. I did however find an internet resource that says it is possible to turbocharge an SPI Engine. I'm gonna do a little bit more researching on this before i end up doing something wonderful or something drastic...lol Thanks again! :D

Yeah I know this is old but I see it best that you stick with the SPI. Why swap for 20 more hp and 10 more tq? If you haven't been stop by www.focaljet.com and visit the SPI Forums. We already have a supercharged SPI and many more going turbo. There is stuff for the SPI you just have to search for it.

If you want to do a swap you can swap with the SVTC 2.5l duratech, or the v8 conversion :D Now thats power for you to swap to and then add boostah :bloated:

I have a DOHC Zetec Ford Focus 2002 engine, I can sell, but I really want to put it in my car. My engine is blown, and the kids picked up the zetec at the wreckers, but it's in great shape and they cleaned it.

Can I ask a mechanic to put this engine in my 2000 ford focus sedan?

Will it fit?

THANKS

Hey, I have a 2003 spi with a thrown rod, and would like to swap it for the zetec, but I've heard that along with replacing the ecu, I would also have to so the fuel system because they're incompatible. Is this true, and does anyone have any suggestions?

I no longer have the zetec, but I have an engine stand (H-shaped) you can have for $40 Sue 416-265-2959

If you're interested in an SPI to Zetec engine swap you'll need quite a bit of info. You'll need to change the computer, and passenger side engine wiring harness all the way back to the fuel pump. You'll also want the key from the car that the computer came from if you don't want to spend $50 re flashing the computer.
Also you'll need to know what year the replacement engine / harness came from because the harness plugs will fit from year to year but the wiring is different so you could lose some accessories or gain a fire.
I would recommend you go to the Focus Fanatics forum to get more detailed info. They have a couple of threads there where this conversion was performed with quite a few details included, parts lists and photos etc.

There is a guy in Wisconsin who I think is the guru on this conversion. He and his crew can do one in a day or so but they've done dozens and they know what NOT to do. The business name is Speedway motors.

I had a local mechanic who was familiar with Focuses do a conversion for me. I ended up with a couple of fires in the passenger compartment so I have a replacement car now.

Good Luck
