Transgo Shift Kit Question

Ok, i have the L series transgo kit for my 2002 silverado, im taking it to a tranny shop to get it put in, the guys told me around $100 to put it in, and he seemed to know all about the kit as soon as i told him what i have, and he said he uses them almost every day, so here is my question, he asked me what i would do if that didnt fix my problem. I have a 2002 1500 4.8 4L60E transmission, with a hard shift sometimes between 2-3, and on a rare occassion 1-2. Is there really any good chance that it would be anything else? I have read about this kit and peoples problem for some time and i seem to have the exact same problems that other people have. Also will this kit restore my nice smooth shifts again like stock, or will it give the shifts a little kick? Thanks guys!

How many miles on it?
Has it ever been serviced?
Get it on a good engine/transmission capable scanner and see if there is any codes or problems.
If you have a problem there should be a code some place.
Post back code no.
I would get a all data sub and go over the factory TSB's on transmission shifting.

Some times it is normal operation and sometimes it can go back to engine running problems.
The engine running has to be up to par for the transmission to work right.

I had the same problem with my transmission at 106,000 miles, I installed the TransGo Shiftkit myself and at 155,000 miles the tranny is still perfect and I pull a heavy trailer sometimes.

It has 58,000 miles on it, i dont have any check engine lights, and i just had my hypertech programmer on it and it didnt pick up any trouble codes, the engine seems to run great, except the dreaded piston slap, but i just changed, plugs, wires, air filter, fuel filter, changed oil, i dont know if the tranny has ever been serviced, i just bought the truck used a couple months ago, and i have the stuff the change the tranny filter, but i figured for $100, i can get the tranny filter and fluid changed, and the transgo kit installed, which i dont think having the kit installed one way or another is going to hurt anything from what i read about other people problems, thanks again

Can I ask what the transgo kit kit does? I thought a lot of transmission stuff was controlled by the computer. I know when I used a SuperChip programmer on my 2000 ext cab 5.3 it cleared up some things I didn't like about how my trans shifted.

The PCM controls the shifts and line pressure; however, there are still shift valves, accumulators, an accumulator valve, etc. The kit improves shift timing which minimizes wear and tear on the tranny. It also improves oil flow to the 3/4 clutch pack which is a known weak link for the 4L60E. It also helps reduce (or fixes many things that can cause) P1870 problems.

Thats what the guy that is putting in my kit was thinking about, that the transmission is running in high line pressure now cause something is wrong, but i dont get any check engine lights, but will that code P1870 show up on a tranny scanner, even if i dont have a check engine light? And if i do have the P1870 code, the transgo kit is made to fix it right? Thanks!

P1870 will set the check engine light. The kit is designed to fix/prevent P1870.
Some programmers raise the line pressure and that is not recommended with the Transgo kit since it already increases the line pressure. Torque management (if the vehicle has it) can cause soft shifts even after the kit is installed and should be deprogrammed if you want firm shifts.
