i have a 2000 grand prix gt that died on me and wouldn't restart. i replaced the fuel pump since the sender was bad and it ran for 10 minutes then stalled. it would restart and run, but only if i hold down the gas pedal to keep it idling. finally it would just start chugging and not restart. so i replaced the regulator and the same thing happens. the check engine light is not on. it seems like it is getting too much gas. i don't want to get it towed to a dealer. does this sound like a vaccum leak?

i've been doing some searching and this sounds like the maf sensor. i will try to disconnect it when i get home.

I agree with you to try unplugging the MAF sensor first as that is a common cause of your issue.

i unplugged the maf sensor and it ran until i shut it off. i hope this is the problem. i assume that disconnecting the maf sensor will make the car run a little different. it seems to hesitate when i rev it. anyway, i am going to order a new maf from zzp but i am going to try to clean the one i have. i already have some maf sensor cleaner so i might as well try it.

Good luck, I hope the cleaner works for you, as it's much cheaper than a new MAF.

cleaning the maf didn't fix it, so i ordered the new one from zzp and it seems to have fixed the problem. of course it cost me almost $500.......since i purchased a new stainless downpipe and ceramic coated crossover to go with it. i haven't installed the downpipe yet but i tell you it is a work of art. excellent build quality.
