Fuel level sensor

My gas gauge stopped working recently on my 99 Olds Intrigue........ I would like to figure out to replace it. I was told it was the fuel level sensor. Is that easy? What else could it be? Thanks

Well, the only other thing would be a wiring issue of some kind. If Im not mistaken the sensor is inside the tank, and should be accessible through the access port in the trunk underneath the carpet. But thats about as far as I know, mine hasnt worked for quite some time now, its about a 60-70 dollar part, and for that price, I can just keep track of how much I drive.

I have the same issue as LittleHoov. Mine hasn't worked since 70k miles. I'm at 151k now. I keep track using the trip odometer. I know I can easily get 400 miles per tank with my daily commute. More city driving and I re-fill at 350 miles. I haven't run out of gas yet.

I understand it is not that difficult if you are handy. I'm pretty cheap and not that handy.

Just install a dipstick on your gas cap :grinno: lol ...I know it is an expensive fix in a 2004 GMC sierra..but obviously this isnt a GMC sierra. I beleive the access to the sending unit on the tank is either at the back of the trunk or under the rear seats. Not alot of room to workwhen all the seats are ripped out but I personally couldnt stand to have a non-functioning gas guage. Just because i am so damn cheap and my low fuel light is pretty much always lit..lol. to me, "E" means fill up on tuesday! I know i would run out of gas if mine didnt work.

If you fold your back seats down and pull the carpet up you can see the access panel. I have found it on mine, but never had to take it off. It is just screwed down though.
