01 caravan fuel gauge fluxuates

Whenever you drive the fuel gauge will go up an back down occaisionaly. Last time it showed it was on 1/4 tank but it only took 5 gallons. Could the float on the fuel pump be bad.

The sending unit (float) can cause this problem it did on my '96 and as the sending unit is in fuel tank and attached to the fuel pump, I replaced the complete fuel pump module (did not wish to do this twice if fuel pump went south). If mechanically inclined, you can do this, I did on my garage floor using jack stands and a floor jack.
