I'm planning on putting a '96 Olds Achieva 2.4L (transmission is shot) into my '96 Grand Am GT that has a ruined 2.4L engine (timing chain broke.)
Does anyone know if the Achieva engine has all the same sensors, etc. as the GA engine? I'm not worried about swapping any necessary brackets or mounts, but having a different number of sensors has me worried.
And, I've read the statement "I've heard people have removed the engine out the top of the car" but I was wondering if anyone here has done that and what extra steps may be involved. I have the normal floor engine hoist and also an overhead gantry engine hoist, but no lift (at least not yet.)
Thanks in advance.

Motor should swap without a problem. It comes out the bottom of the car, there really isn't enough room to pull it out the top of the car. Unbolt everything, use the engine hoist to lift the front of the car up and over the motor, then drag it out. Take it out with the trans attached, that way all you have to disconnect is the motor mounts, brakes, struts at the towers, tie rod ends, coolant lines, electrical, and exhaust. It's much easier than trying to wiggle it out of the top of the car as the top of the strut towers are about the same width as the motor itself. Good luck.
