Car kicks between gear changes

Hi for awhile now I've notice that my 2001 Aurora on random occasions starts to kick during gear changes. It seems to occur when the car is driven at slow speeds, for example stop and go in traffic. I've managed on a few occasions to stop this phenomena by turning off the motor, but not all the time. When stopped for a long period it goes back to smooth gear changes.

Anyone know what this could be???

Hello,

It sounds like I have the same problem as you. The tranny kicks from gear to gear after driving in slow moving highway stop and go traffic. The only way I have been able to cure it is to bring the vehicle to a full stop, put it in park, and then restart it.

The second time it happened, it did produce an error code. The dealership changed the tranny pressure regulator, but it did not fix the problem (nor does this problem produce any more error codes).

Did you ever get this fixed? Can anyone else help?

Thanks!!!

What you are experiencing is a turbine speed sensor malfunction. Typically the sensor is not the problem but the wiring. My car does this from time to time, I think it throws error code 7018 or 0718 (I forget which). I clear the code with my OBD II diagnostic tool WHILE THE CAR IS RUNNING. Any diagnostic tool will tell you to clear it with the engine off but if you do it while the engine is running the light will go out and the trans will operate normally. Additionally it may be a good idea to locate the wiring harness that goes into the transmission, remove it and blow out any dirt in the connector and firmly plug it back in. This harness is on the driver's side, it's the only 20 pin connector that runs directly into the transmission.
