I have a used 2007 GP-GT, 27,000 miles. i love my car. im thinking about throwing in some upgrades. air filter and spark plugs

i have heard mix opionions about K&N cold air intakes.

some people say that there is no improvement at all, some people think they are a godsend. does any one have a 3800 III supercharged, with a cold air intake? how many HP does it add? does it increase or decrease milage?

Also what are some premium spark plugs that i can throw in? i heard platinum is good. i drive between 1k- 3k (sometimes) a month!

thanks for your help in advance, im a newb.

A K&N will do minor increases to power. With both of them, it will probably be an unoticeable difference unless you are running specific ET's. It should give it a deeper throatier sound though.

hmm, ok minor improvement.

well then what are some quality spark plugs then? im thinking longevity and protecting my engine!

I dont think better spark plugs are going to increase performance for you at all. Your money is probably better spent on some other upgrades for your motor. Check maybe zzperformance.com.

Also with the K&N, I had one in my other car, and it must have been over oiled or something, but it gummed up the MAF sensor and seemed to hurt my milage. I wasnt impressed.

Why not just go all the way and throw a supercharger in it? :) Naw but if I were you, I'd start with some exhaust work.

The only reason to change spark plugs for performance is to alter the factory heat range on a modded motor. Any spark plug that claims it boosts HP or mileage by itself is a bunch of hooey!!! The only difference between Iridium/Platinum and standard plugs is longevity. These cars come with Iridium plugs standard, which in my opinion are the best money can buy. Unless you're going to spend a lot of money on engine mods and a reprogrammed PCM, new plugs are a waste of money at your mileage. Put your money into freeing up the exhaust for the most bang for your buck on a non supercharged 3800.

i already have the wonderful gm3800 III with a supercharger.
it's a 2007 grand prix - gt

about how much would a true dual exhaust cost?

True dual exhaust? Forget it. You do not have the capability which includes wiring, sensors and PCM module programming to support true dual exhaust in which each bank is independent from the exhaust manifolds all the way through to the tips. Also, two CAT convertors will be required along with extensive exhaust plumbing modifications.

There are other ways to modify the exhaust system for a performance increase to include better sound without going off the deep end.

I have never seen "true duel" exhaust on a FWD car. If someone has done it, it would require serious customization and it probably wasn't worth the headache. K&N intake would be better than stock. You would have to do a dyno test before and after to actually see what kind of gains it would bring, but i'd say somewhere around 5-10hp. Drop in filter...probably very little gains.

Try thrasherpower.com. Cheap power with a 3.6 " pulley

OK, so I have a K&N on my GTP and I love it. If it is overoiled, your MAF will get gummed up and give improper readings, but it's not that hard to follow directions to re-oil it.

As for power gains, very little, but still noticable IMO. After I put it on, I could feel the extra umph off the line, but not really anywhere else in the powerband. K&N claims it adds lie 14.5HP at the wheels on a stock GTP:screwy: , but there is no way that's true! Gas mileage, I haven't really noticed a difference. Mileage is prolly worse due to me getting a heavier foot to hear the S/C'er whine:iceslolan !

For plugs, I put one series colder Double Platinum's in. But I plan to mod more so it was more of a pre-emptive strike! No difference at all for anything doing this.

If I had it to do over again, I would do the exhaust first. The stock exhaust is real restrictive and once it's upgraded, you have many more options! That's the next thing I'm doing, a full header-back exhaust, then a PCM, and finally a 3.6" pulley.

As for the pulley, I would wait until you have better supporting mods, but that's just my opinion. These cars have high burst KR as it is, no need to add to that!
