i got into a minor accident in my car a few weeks back, now (sometimes... well, more often then not.) when i turn on my car itturns off by itself, if i dont rev it up past like 2K rpms. so when i just turned on my car without warming it up and im driving it'll trun off, when im turning... which is not good since powersteering cuts off. another thing is that everyonce in a while it'll start reving by itself... sometimes it'll idle at 2.5K rpms or 3K rpms . but what bothers me the most is that it'll sometimes rev from 2K rpms to 2.5 Rpms by itself(back and forth, over and over again),, for no reason... when im stopped like at a light or something.
if anyone has had this happen to them or has any idea, please help me out.
i dont want to go to the shop and spend a lot of money if its something little that i can fix. thnks!

Hmmm, first double check your throttle cable on top of your intake manifold. it should be idleing around 800 -1000. Also, check your power steering belt and your acc belt and see if its tensioned reall tight (not likely but just something else to check)
also, usually eratic reving happens when the ecu is relearning the atmosphereic conditions and what not, but that should only be happening when the bat has been disconnected for a while.
however many people have idle issues.

Sounds like your idle control motor (ISC or IAC) is going bad.

haha, good call, but i didnt want to be the bearer of bad news. but seriously, i had the tension on my ac belt too tight once and it messed with my idle.

i agree idle control motor, or mass air flow sensor.... do you have a cel on also??? because a while back my car did the same thing and i had a cel and it turned out to be the mass air flow sensor....changed it out and light was gone and my car idled like it should

Only reason I don't think it's the MAS is that wouldn't make it jump up in RPM, but when I first started reading it that was my first thought.

what im not sure about is that this is only sometimes... sometime the car works perfectly. and does anyone have any ideas as to why its turning off?

uhm, i installed this gay mitsubishi alarm (relating to ignition) that could go into like 5 different cars (not stock 3s) , and a piece was missing, so i just made it work or whatever. anyway, my knee panel doesn't fit on right for now, so sometimes if my knee hits it my car shuts off, and i lose power steering and stuff until i hit the knee panel, then my gauge cluster lights up like battery and CEL like when you insert the key... so i'm assuming, and probably wrong, but maybe an ignition problem.

It will stall out when the ISC motor is going bad.

You know guys, it could always be unrelated to the accident and just the ecu:crying: The damn caps make very strange things happen, i know my car would shut off randomly.:frown:
but id check that last because its $250 rebuilt and upwards of $!000 for a new one.

Very true, but like you said, start small and work your way up.
