Fuel Gauge 2007 Trailblazer

Hello,
My gas tank was near empty but the warning light wasn't on yet, I then filled the tank (approx 19 gallons). When I started it up the the gas gauge showed empty and the fuel light was on along with the engine light. I made sure the cap was on correctly yet both lights are still on and I know the tank is full. Any ideas? Not sure what to check. Thanks!

Usually this caused by a bad tank gage unit, but it should be checked out as required.
