Engine stalls

Hi, I've got a 1988 Plymouth Voyager w/3.0L V6. the problem I'm having is that the engine acts eratic then dies when I'm driving. I checked the error codes, and replaced the O2 sensor. I also thought it might be the fuel pump, So I checked it with a pressure guage and it checked out ok. I started checking the electrical system (Coil, Cap and rotor). I found that the coil was bad so I replaced it and the cap and rotor. I also found a noise filter Capacitor connected to the coil, and disconneted it. The van ran fine for about 1 week, then it started all over again. I checked the error code and all I get is 55 (end of report). Please help. I can't afford too much right now. (unemployed) and this is our only vehicle. the only conclusion I can think of is replacing the Computer or Optical Sensor in the distributor.($174.00 computer & $109.00 optical sensor) I'm out of ideas.
Any suggestions ?

Have you checked to see if your catilactic converter is plugged as a plugged converter will cause all sorts of problems????????????/

Try cleaning the egr valve. Spray along the intake manifold with carb cleaner if this smooths out the engine you have a leaking intake manifold. A stuck egr will shut down an engine. I think your problem is more basic rather than a computer.
Check for good grounds and power to the system. A dirty air flow meter will cause major problems. Check gas and air filters as they will shut you down.

My 1995 Voyager (3 liter V6) did the same thing. After replacing fuel pump, filter, O2 sensor, etc. Car still ran erratically and would stall and not start for 15 - 30 minutes, very unpredictable. I finally replaced the MAP Sensor (Manifold Absolute Pressure) and ALL the problems went away!! That was 3 years ago. A MAP sensor costs $50 - $60 and is a do it yourself job. I'll bet that's what the problem is.
