alright well on cardomain some dude with a 3kgt had a sl with the flowmaster 40 delta and man it sounded really really good. since then, i ordered the 40 delta so i can do the same setup and it should be here in a few days, but i was wondering would it sound way different or very similar considering i have a sohc, and the sl is a dohc?also another question.... do the muffler tips themselves play a major role on any exhaust sound also???

the tips do have a part in the sound, along with the engine.

what year is your sl?

I hate flowmaster personaly i think it sounds like ass and sucks for performance... but hey thats just me..
I think stealthie said the sohc sound a lot meaner? idk if thats true or not cause i am sure he is a little bais sein as how he has a sohc.

yeah, from what i hear the sohc should have a bit deeper exhaust pitch

SOHC has a much more "muscle" tone.

why?

that is exactly what i am going for:grinyes:.... well before i had no mufflers or resonators and it sounded almost like a v8 but it wasn't loud enough for me so thats why i am to go flowmaster

Stroke, bore, air filer, intake plumbing, intake manifold, exhaust manifold, pipe layout, pipe width, muffler, cat, tips, muffler placement, valve timing.

All this crap can effect how your car sounds.

Also, I'm with Jason, Flowmaster is crap. You want to reduce backpressure in your exhaust. Have you seen inside one of those? Talk about a rat maze. People buy them for the sound but they are barely better than most stock mufflers at performance.

yes i do agree it a rat maze lol... but i have the sohc so it's not that fast so im kind of going more for show than go....well until i buy a vr4 or something:icon16: but polygon don't you need some amount of backpressure though???i heard that if you lack too much back pressure you can fry your valves and things of that nature...

Hahaha, wherever you heard that stop getting info from them. Backpressure is exhaust gas trying to force it's way back into the engine. For the most part exhaust gas has all the velocity it needs after leaving the manifold. Your job is to not slow it down with bends and crap in the way. The less the gas has to change direction, the better. It can effect low end torque versus top end, but reducing it CAN'T damage your engine.

thanks for the 411.... well before i just had straight pipe with only the cat and the 2 precats but i also thought of gutting out the precats and going test pipe with no mufflers or resonator....that would be the maximum exhaust flow i could get besides the headers right... i thought of doing that but i knew it would drop back pressure big time so i didn't do it because of that misinterpretation but now saying wut you said... make me want to do it... also when i did the straight pipe i did lose a bit of low end torque but man it helped my midrange tremondously.... like when i would be slowly accelarating once it got past 2k rpms, you could feel more power without stepping on the gas
