92 ford ranger leafsprings?

I have a 1992 Ford Ranger and my driver side leafspring has sprung.. Of the 3 leafs, 2 are broke..what do any of you suggest as the way to repair them???

I do want at least a 2" lift :) but dont know how to do leafsprings :banghead: :banghead:

The junkyard told me I could get them for $20 per side. Does anyone have any idea what I should look for or how to tell if I'm getting the right ones :dunno:

The junkyard owner/worker should either tell you which ones to take or put the right ones right in your hands/truck bed... unless you're trying to buy ones that give you the 2" lift right from the yard -- if so, good luck. I can't help with the lift, but others here might. You could also try The Ranger Station (http://www.therangerstation.com) to get some info -- lots of technical stuff and how-to's there.

Thanks. Actually the junk yard that I am going to is one of those "Pull it yourself" yards. I've just never done these before and I'm not sure of the type to get and I don't want to work for all that time pulling off the wrong ones. The shop will do it for $800 and I need to do it cheaper... at least reasonably. Ouch. The one I go to pulls stuff like that all the time because the rest of the vehicle goes to the crusher pretty quick. Well, a direct-fit replacement would be best for a newbie, so I'd say see if you can find a Ranger there with the same bed you have. If you have a long-bed, you could probably bolt on one from an F150, but that'd be stiffer than stock. The Ranger Station probably has more info for you than I could give about that, though.

Use a tape measure and measure the width. Then measure from the center bolt to the front shackle. Then measure from the center bolt to the back shackle. Write down all measurements. Jack up your ranger and put it on 4 jackstands. Put a floor jack under the pumpkin in the center. Use a 1/2 inch breaker bar or impact wrench. Remove the 4 bolts. Then remove the center bolt. Put blocks under this side axle. Unbolt the shackles and remove the spring. Buy new center bolts and new u-bolts from a spring shop or parts store if adding more than one leaf. I usually buy a full length spring and cut the shackles off. Using short springs helps but doesn't solve the problem.
One additional leaf is usually enough but maybe two for a pickup truck.
Buy one used complete spring for the broken side and full size springs for stiffness. Only do one side at a time. You will also need new straps so they don't twist. Most U-pull it yards will bring a front end loader when every thing is loose so you don't get hurt. Normal yards have them hanging up and just sell you the parts.
