Punctured Tire.

My mom was driving the her Crossfire today and managed to put 1/2" drill bit through the rear tire and wheel. So, my parents are looking at about $1,000 to replace them both.

Anyhow, I was up with them today and my father begins arguing with me. I said that I was surprised it went through the wheel as well. He seems to think that the front tire threw the drill bit into the tire and that's how it happened, she was only going 60 mph. Anyhow, I don't think that the drill has the speed, let alone the mass, to even puncture the tire. I was thinking that the front probably pitched it up then the rear tire went over it.

I think my theory fits a lot better and I still think the wheel was weak. Hell, if the Stealth's wheel didn't crack when I went into a curb this drill bit shouldn't have punctured hers.

Bad luck for your mom. And whats wrong with people these days! Leaving a perfictly good 1/2" drill bit just laying in the road. Please tell me you kept it.

Thats one expensive rim man. Well i guess when you think about it, it is like a 22 inch rim and getting rubber to wrap around those things is quite a pricy process.

I think it would have to have wedged and gotten run over. I've heard of things flying out from under cars at speeds faster then the car was traveling, but in order to puncture the tire and rim... You would need more then just a projectile flying quicly. You would need the weight of the car to push it through. The tire just stablized the bit in an upright position. Tell your Dad I'm taking your side man...

Yeah, it's like throwing a pebbel at someone versus a lead ball. It just doesn't have the mass.

I feel your pain. Was washing my car on Saturday, looked down, and saw a nasty silver screw sticking out of my side wall. One Bridgestone Potenza, $210+mounting, so it was about $240 when all was said and done. The worst part was, I had to go to five different tire places before I found one. I'm not looking forward to buying a whole new set of tires for this car.

But I dunno, I think it is possible with what your dad is saying. Unlikely, yes, but possible. When I was working at the BMW dealership, we had an X5 come it whose wheel had seperated...that was interesting.
