speedometer jumping

I've got a '96 Tacoma with 84,000 miles. 4 cyl. 5 speed manual trans.Lately, the speedometer needle bounces while driving. Does this vehicle use a cable as vehicles in years past, that just needs lubing, or is it somehow electrically operated? What do I need to do to correct the problem. I didn't want to just jump in and start dismantling things before consulting the experts on this forum. Thank's

The way to tell if you have a cable or not is to look at the transmission. If there is a cable then it is a cable, there are wires coming out of the back of the trans then it is electric. Toyota has used both, but I believe for your model year the spedo is cable driven.

Thank's for the info. As soon as the weather turns better, I'll get under it and check. If I run into problems, you can bet I'll be asking more questions here.
